between 8 & 15 July:            Start of FlightCase!

You are obliged to take part in the safety training as provided by the TU Delft. You can do this training on Feb. 21st, March 9th or April 12th from 12.00 till 14.00, whichever day suits you the best. If none of the dates are possible, please let us know ASAP!

You can subscribe by sending an email to TU-IV@tudelft.nl, with the following information:

  • Name, email, phone number and faculty

  • Information about the trip (travel dates and location)

  • Prefered language: English or Dutch.

At the safety training, they will ask you to set up a ‘safety plan’ before going on the trip to Shanghai. Because it is not very efficient to make individual safety plans, we will make the safety plan for the complete group and make sure that you will also get this when it is finished.

FlightCase costs 1000,- EUR, plus a 100,- EUR safety deposit that you get back before the second quarter (Q2) of the academic year 2017/2018.

You can choose to pay this at once (1100,- before February 25) or in two installments (550,- before February 25, and 550,- before March 25).

When you transfer the money, please write in the comments "FlightCase First name Surname".

FlightCourse is an essential  part of FlightCase during which we prepare for the trip and do research for the company cases. The course will take place in Q4, every Monday evening from 18.00 till 21.30, Kicking off on April 24th.

Next to the meetings on Monday, you are required to spend some additional hours per week on the preparation. Every Wednesday afternoon, we will arrange a meeting space to do group work. It is therefore recommended to do extra IDE Academy workshops in Q3, so you have more free Wednesdays in Q4.

The course code is ID5583, you can use this code to add the course to your TU Delft calendar. You do not need to subscribe on Osiris.

There were some questions about the dates, therefore some clarification:

We do not yet know the exact dates of departure and return, this depends on which flight tickets we manage to get. We therefore kindly ask you to keep your agenda clear from the end of the semester until the 5th of August.

It is your own responsibility to own a passport that is valid for at least 6 months after departure. Please check this ASAP, so you can arrange a new passport BEFORE April if needed. The visa arrangement will start three months before departure, so your passport should be ready by then!
And keep in mind that while arranging a visa, your passport will be with the embassy for a while ( can be up to a couple of months! ). If this is your only identification document, we recommend you to arrange an additional legitimate  identification card for that period.

For our administration and to book the flight ticket, we ask you to hand in a copy of your passport before April 1st and a copy of your health insurance before May 15th .

visa arrangement

For those of us that are not Chinese, you need a visa to enter China. In principle, the visa is your (the participant’s) responsibility, however we will be helping you as much as we can. We have done some research, and ask you to apply for an F-Visa.

Things you will need to arrange yourself:

  • Applicant's passport (with blank pages left) and at least 6 months validity left before expiration.
  • One accurately and truthfully completed Application Form.
  • One recent passport-size color photo stuck on the application form.
  • Proof for financial accountability and verification of leaving China after the visa expires (booking of flight ticket*).

We will arrange:

  • Day to day planning and copy of Chinese Hotel Reservations (overnight stays).
  • Invitation Letter, Confirmation Letter of Invitation (with the invitation letter attached) or conference notice issued by relevant entity, individual or duly authorized Chinese institute. The invitation letter should include following:
  • Information on the applicant (full name, gender, date of birth, etc.)
  • Information on the planned visit (purpose of visit, arrival and departure dates, place(s) of visit, relations between the applicant and the inviting entity or individual, financial source for expenditures)/
  • Information on the inviting entity or individual (name, contact number, address, official stamp, signature of the legal representative of the entity or the inviting individual)

*IMPORTANT: If you choose the FlightCase one-way ticket, please wait with booking the rest of your tickets (return ticket) since we cannot yet guarantee that we will go. We will let you know when you can start booking the rest of the tickets which you will need for the visa. This will most probably be somewhere around the kick-off of FlightCourse which is on April 24th.

Please start your visa application on May 1st at the latest, as it can take quite some time. The deadline for arranging your own visa will be May 15th. Please make sure that you arrange your passport in time!

Flightcase+ ticket options

For the flight ticket we are providing you with two options:

Regular FlightCase Ticket: You come with us on an amazing +/- 3 week trip to China, and take the return ticket (as provided by the committee) back to the Netherlands.

FlightCase One-Way Ticket: You make use of a one-way ticket to Shanghai, and arrange the return ticket for yourself. Please be aware that you are only allowed to stay a maximum amount of 30 days in China (which includes our +/-3 week trip). Though we cannot yet make any monetary commitments, we are looking for possibilities to compensate you in case of lower ticket prices.

Please let us know as soon as possible (BEFORE March 9th) which option you would like to take through the following link: https://goo.gl/forms/v4Rg4nr0P3qIyR9x1

For the area we are visiting it is recommended to have Hepatitis A and DTP vaccinations.

You can get them here in Delft, for example by making an appointment on https://www.sgzopreis.nl or http://www.ggdreisvaccinaties.nl/locaties/ggd-haaglanden-delft . This is your own responsibility, so make sure to check when, where and how you want to do it.

We have the FlightCase email address, which we  try to check daily. We will also invite you to a Facebook group, where we can communicate with the whole group and where you can ask questions that are relevant to more people. Basic information will also be available on the website.

On the 12th of March, the first team activity is planned to get to know each other and celebrate the fact that we will be going to Shanghai together!
Please reserve this evening in your agenda because everybody should be there! The activity will start around 18.00. Only if you cannot make it at that time or, even worse, if you cannot join us at all, you should let us know by e-mail. More information about this event will follow.
